Welcome to Hope, Arkansas.
Hope is a commercial center and a distribution point for an agricultural region. Its industries include food processing, printing, and the making of machinery and apparel. Hope is a small city located in Hempstead County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 10,616. The city is the county seat of Hempstead County. Located halfway between Dallas and Memphis on Interstate 30, Hope, Arkansas is a world-class southern community in the Texarkana metropolitan area. Impressive business advantages and a quality family-oriented lifestyle have made Hope one of the top jobs-growth communities in the entire 4-state region.
It is notable primarily as the birth place of the 42nd president of the United States, Bill Clinton. At the 1992 Democratic National Convention, Clinton ended his acceptance speech by saying, "I believe in a place called Hope". It is also the birth place of the current governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee. The watermelon festival is celebrated in August. The melons are big. The crowds are big. Everyone has a big time. The site is "a place called Hope," and the event is an August tradition in the Natural State. It's the Hope Watermelon Festival, held in Hope, Arkansas, "home of the world's largest watermelons" and now enjoying additional popularity as the birthplace of President Bill Clinton and Govenor Mike Huckabee. Besides melons, you can expect tennis and other tournaments, tug-of-war competition, a dog show, clogging demonstrations, arts and crafts, entertainment, food and fun. Admission is free.
